Welcome to another reveal State of Decay fans! We’ve got a bloody update this week as you can already tell! We’ve also got a bit more of the behind the scenes below for our Big Picture of this weeks SUPER early concept art. As a reminder as well, a good chunk of these images were created long before production began so do not represent the final product but we have more on that below. We really hope you enjoy this weeks reveal as we are rounding the corning to wrapping up our concept art reveal series. Enjoy!

“To appreciate this week’s Big Picture, we need to let you in on the process. Early in production (VERY early, before any developers or builders do anything), a small group of designers and artists are hard at work setting the tone, look, and goals. We’ll use the resulting documentation as a set of guideposts to keep the finished game coherent and consistent.

While we prefer to keep all the cool jobs in-house, sometimes the schedule doesn’t allow us to do so, and we turn to very talented contractors. We sent one such artist named Stephen Schirle (whose work has been featured in other parts of the Big Picture series so far) a list of phrases that had to be put into pictures. “Nobody Survives Alone.” “Faded Memories.” “Horrific Beauty.” etc..

This image was his response to “Explore and Complete Missions,” because the example of a mission he got was “defeat a horde.” Although everyone knows the body count in this picture is unlikely with one survivor and a melee weapon, we loved the expression of numb weariness and exhausted triumph on the survivor’s face. And besides, success against the odds is also something that’s important to illustrate for State of Decay 2.”
